From forging unique partnerships to finding new ways to use its data, the city of Chicago has taken many innovative approaches to develop predictive models that enhance city services and quality of life for residents. In this webinar, Chicago reviews these approaches through the lens of several successful use cases, which include projects for restaurant inspection forecasting and beach water quality protection, among others. Attendees will also have an opportunity to gain insights for launching advanced analytics projects in their own cities and organizations.

PANELISTS

Tom Schenk is currently the Chief Data Officer at the city of Chicago, which includes overseeing Chicago’s open data portal, advanced analytics team, and the city’s data and business intelligence team. He leads the strategic use of data to improve the efficiency of city operations and improve the quality of life for residents. Tom has lead the expansion of Chicago’s leading open data portal, deployed predictive analytics in the city to improve data services, and has streamlined the city’s data operations.

Sean Thornton is a Program Advisor for the Ash Center's Civic Analytics Network and writer for Data-Smart City Solutions. Based in Chicago and working in partnership with the city's Department of Innovation and Technology, Sean holds joint master’s degrees from the University of Chicago in Public Policy and Social Service Administration. His work has spanned the city's public, philanthropic, and nonprofit sectors.
