Report Date: 2014

Produced For: The Office of the Governor under Governor Jay Inslee

Produced By: Accenture and state employees

The Getting Results with Lean Principles in Washington State report stems from the Results Washington (Results WA) initiative, a strategic framework for performance management and continuous state government improvement. The initiative aims to foster a lean culture that drives accountability and results for the people of Washington state. Governor Jay Inslee’s mission through Results WA is to “turn Washington into a national model for states with limited resources in search of ways to create more jobs, world-class schools, sustainable energy, vibrant communities and more efficient government.” Based around ten main goals, the long-term approach of this project hopes to foster transformational change within Washington’s government. The report is structurally organized by goal topic, subtopic, outcome measures, and leading indicators. The report includes an implementation roadmap that outlines methods for transforming Results WA’s strategic vision into actionable goals and for using Results WA to bolster state government’s accountability principles. The report’s recommendations address reforms around workplace culture, service reliability, transparency, and fiscal responsibility, among other items. Report recommendations are accompanied by specific and attainable performance indicators. The Results WA initiative is uniquely accompanied by an interactive website that includes real-time tracking of the government’s transformation processes.
