NBC 29: VIRGINIA LAUNCHES NATION'S FIRST STATEWIDE HEALTH EQUITY DASHBOARDS 

Virginia is now publishing the country’s first publicly-available, statewide, health equity dashboards, focusing on COVID-19 data, prevention, and recovery. The disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on Black Americans and other people of color has spurred attention to health inequities, and the two new dashboards were created by Virginia’s Health Equity Leadership Taskforce.

 

BLOOMBERG CITY LAB: HOW 'GENDERED' CITY BUDGETS AIM TO BOOST EQUALITY 

Municipal spending plans for the city of Lyon, France are going to be “sensitive to gender” in order to assure that public investments are equitably dispersed. By examining the way funds are distributed, officials are hoping to uncover and correct for any unintentional gender biases in what programs, facilities, and infrastructure are getting funded. 

 

CBS CHICAGO: CITY LAUNCHES NEW VIOLENCE REDUCTION DASHBOARD IN EFFORT TO IMPROVE CRIME DATA REPORTING 

Chicago revealed a new data dashboard that displays the impact of violence in the city, which is inequitable based on racial demographics and geography. Partnering with the University of Chicago Crime Lab, this dashboard is part of the city’s community-based violence reduction efforts and was made with input from community organizations, victims services, and city departments.

 

STATE SCOOP: PANDEMIC SPURRED COLLABORATION, MORE DATA USE, LA AND NY OFFICIALS SAY 

During a recent event on data and governance, city and state leaders shared how they relied heavily on data during the COVID-19 pandemic, although this reliance did reveal gaps in data collection, analysis, formatting and accuracy. Despite these challenges many other officials were inspired to collaborate with data leaders as they realized the insights available and how data could help guide decision-making.
