On February 23 at 12 pm EST, the Civic Analytics Network hosted a webinar, Putting People First: Data Stewardship for a Well-Run City.

With nearly 40 departments serving 4 million residents, the city of Los Angeles requires strong and connected leadership to accelerate the use of data to advance equity and improve service delivery for all residents. In this webinar, leaders from Los Angeles define the city's approach to data governance and outline quick wins that other organizations can leverage to develop system-wide improvements and develop a data-ready culture eager to innovate and iterate in this evolving space.

Sari Ladin-Sienne executes Mayor Garcetti’s vision for a proactive and well-run city that harnesses the power of data to improve the lives of all Angelenos. As Chief Data Officer, Sari improves access to meaningful information for residents and city employees through contextualized digital applications and analytics. During her time at the Mayor's Office, she has initiated a citywide Data Collaborative that invests in the human infrastructure that makes data collection and sharing possible, expanded the reach of the city's data portals, and developed strategic partnerships with local universities to grow the use of data for evidence-based policymaking. She holds a master's degree in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley.

Chelsea Ursaner also works in Mayor Garcetti’s office, where her focus is making data accessible and meaningful to city employees and the public. Prior to becoming an Angeleno, she worked at Epic, a health-care software company in Madison, Wisconsin. There she developed a core belief that software should be a delight to use and a passion for implementation and training. As such, she loves hearing ideas to improve the city’s two open data portals, data.lacity.org and geohub.lacity.org. Outside of the city, she freelances in data science and visualization and leads the Quantified Self LA meetup group. She holds a master’s degree of science in business analytics from USC Marshall School of Business.
